Learn a new craft …. Tatting

So blessed to have a dear friend, Chu Hui, who has arranged a tatting class this morning with Ailyn after knowing that I am keen to pick up this new craft.

Ailyn shared with us a short history on tatting where it first started in the European and the many lovely projects she has completed. I like one of the projects she done, it’s a beautiful Owl. Totally forgotten to take a photo of it.

Anway, it was a 3 hours class but I only managed complete 2 rings as I was struggling on holding the shuttle, which yarn to pull, the first half and second half of the double stitch, picot and so on…

This is the started kit that Ailyn has kindly and generously prepared for us.

Tatting is very interesting and lacy end-product. For beginners, it can be quite tiring on the eyes and perhaps on the shoulder. So whether what you do, always take a break when your eyes are feeling tired and do get up to do a little stretch, ok! *wink wink*

Trying out the not-so-round Doll

Recently, I was browsing the handmades on Instagram and got to chance upon this crafter, buttonbeautiful on Instagram. I noticed the dolls she crocheted are not the usual round bodied dolls. I find her dolls interesting and kind of unique to me.

I decided that I will try making one and since there is no pattern, it is all about trial and error. This doll is in the stage of WIP and hopefully, I will be able to update with a complete doll soon Winking

My Little Doll

Standing at only 5cm tall, this is by far, the smallest doll I have made. It was quite a challenge as the needle hook size is 0.9mm which is also more than half the hook size I usually use.

Are you able to spot her? LOL… That’s how little she is standing among the dolls that I made recently Laughing

Will I be making doll of this size again? Yes! But for now, my fingers need to take a short break from working such thin yarn and small size hook… haha…

New Key Holder

This was my very first key holder that I crocheted for myself 4 years ago. A simple shaped embellished with a 'rose'.

It was very well used and worn but I didn't have time to think of what design I wanna make for myself. So I just used a simple ring to hold my keys together. Then came the LOOM craze Lol... So I decide to make this...I love the colorful bands... Nice to have this but I still prefer to have a 'pouch' for my keys.

Anyway the bands started to break. So I am back to a simple ring again.

I decided to crochet another key keeper for myself. It's a house shaped. I wanted to do a 'heart' for the pull tab but turned out bigger than I expected. Instead of pulling out, I finished it halfway. Looks kinda like a ribbon on the roof. Lol....

Storage Basket for his little stuffs

Each time Junior home from school, he will just place his wallet and watch on the table. But few times, he couldn’t find either his wallet or watch just before leaving home. So I thought a storage basket will be good for him. In fact, this can be also useful to me or any of us since we also have these little stuffs laying around.

Few days ago, my Sis shared a pattern on this owl basket. Cute hor??

Owl Basket

(Please click on the above photo for the free pattern)

But I did a few stuffs relating to Owl. Therefore I decided not to do the owl design. Instead, I just did simple appliques for the basket and some modifications to the above pattern.
