Alligator Pencil Case

About a week ago, Junior has asked if I can crochet him a pencil case. I told him that I will try to do one for him as I was in the midst of converting the knitted hat pattern from flat needles to circular needle.

I managed to find this pattern, Alligator Pencil Case from Yarnspiration. Briefly went through the pattern and looked pretty easy and fast to complete. However due to the different yarn and needle size, I had to adjust the pattern accordingly. That meant countless of redoing the stitches, erasing and scribbling down any changes in pattern etc.

Finally, it’s completed!!!

Original pattern comes with legs but Junior said he prefers a legless alligator! lol….

I didn’t realized that his current pencil case already has a tear but he’s still using it while waiting for me to complete this alligator pencil case.

Just happy to know that he will be able to use it tomorrow! Really hope he will like it.

Volunteering in The Knit of Love by Singapore Cancer Society (SCS)

I came across a Facebook post shared by a friend that SCS is looking for volunteers in knitting hats for cancer patients at hospitals and other organizations. Materials and training will be provided!! So you do not have to buy the materials. But if you wish, the materials are easily available at the local crafting stores.

Though I am not an experienced knitter, I still able to handle basic stitches. Anyway since there are trainer and experienced knitters who will be able to guide on the pattern, anyone without zero knowledge on knitting can also volunteer too.

If you wish to volunteer, check out SCS at their Facebook Page SG Cancer Society or you may wish to email Chloe Email Chloe Ng for more details.

My sis and mom came along for the lesson on 12 April 2014. However, my mom decided that she will not be volunteering so she was there to accompany her 2 daughters. :)
After the lesson, we decided to head over to Spotlight to get more yarns as we may not be available to join the next lesson and we do not wish to run out of yarns halfway through our knits.

Each volunteers are required to complete at least 5 pieces of hats by end of December 2014 and there are at least 10 design of hats that will be shared or taught in this programme.
The pattern of the hat will starts from the basic stitches and slowly progressing to more complicated patterns.

Below are the hats that I have completed. My progress is slow but I will try to speed up and complete more hats 😉

1st Hat - Christian Hat
Completed on 16 May 2014

2nd Hat - Mock Cable Hat
Completed on 12 June 2014

3rd Hat - Terzetto Hat
Completed on 21 June 2014

To this date, I have yet to go for the next lesson as I hope to complete more hats before attending the next lesson. ;)

Owl Crochet Water Bottle Holder

I had to make another water bottle holder after realizing that Junior's current one had a hole in it! The wearing down by friction probably caused the hole from the mesh design water bottle holder.

So this time, I avoided the mesh design. This also meant that it will take a longer time to complete as compared to the mesh water bottle holder which worked up pretty fast!

Junior was tasked to do the color selection which probably was not a wise choice (>_<) as he had chosen a very Halloween color combination : Orange and Black. My plan was to quickly complete a simple or rather, plain design without any added design/patterns. But after knowing his choice of colors, I didn't want to have it in the plain design that I initially planned to do.

Without any patterns onhand, this means that I had to trial and error for the pattern I had in mind. After numerous time of undoing the yarns, the water bottle holder is completed!!!

Hoot Hoot.... It's an Owl Water Bottle Holder!!!

His 1st mesh water bottle holder which had a hole at the bottom
I am so happy that I was able to complete in time as the hole was discovered on the 3rd week of June School Holiday. I had only got a week to get it done for Junior to carry it to school on his first day.
